Thierry Mugler
Theirry Mugler established his name sake fashion label and debuted his first collection in 1973. The designer’s background in dance and photography greatly influenced his runway shows as they were theatrical and exciting presentations that immersed the audience into the fantasy world of Mugler. Mugler, was known to draw inspiration from fetish subcultures and experiment with materials such as leather and rubber, his garments were seductive and feminine. Mugler presented hyper-feminised silhouettes such as the hourglass figure by incorporating corsets and bustier tops. One of Mugler’s most recognisable garment designs is the motorcycle bustier from his Spring Summer collection in 1992. This bustier top was made to look like the front of a motorcycle with handle bars and rear view mirrors. Mugler shut down his ready-to-wear line in 2003, then returned to fashion in 2009 as a costume designer for Beyonce’s ‘I am…. World Tour’. Since 2018, Casey Cadwallader has been the creative director for what is now know as just, Mugler. Shop an exclusive range of vintage Theirry Mugler pieces at Irvrsbl.
