Maison Margiela, now directed by John Galliano, was first established in 1988. The forward thinking fashion house was originally named Maison Martin Margiela after the Belgian founder Martin Margiela. After attending the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with the likes of Ann Demeulemeester the designer established his own brand that focused on the individual elements of each garment such as material, form, structure and technique. What is now a Paris based fashion house is known for its unique interpretation of garments and its experimentation with clothing, construction methods and materials.
