Vintage Shopping in Paris
Words by Clare Ferra
As vintage pros we are often asked how and where to source vintage and we thought we would start a city guide to give you our tips for the best places to shop, starting with one of our favourite cities Paris. Not only is Paris the fashion capital of the world, it is one of the best cities in the world to shop designer vintage fashion. There is something for every taste in Paris, whether you want a highly curated selection of products or you’re somebody on a budget or who enjoys the thrill of the chase this is willing to sift through bulk to find something special and unique. We thought we would put together a comprehensive list of the best places to shop vintage across Paris. We’ve divided the stores into a range of categories: curated, vintage, thrift and luxe. Curated stores mostly stock designer brands and have a specific vision, whether it is dark and avant garde fashion or maximalist Y2k era pieces. Our vintage selection is mostly stores that selll a mix of designer and non labelled vintage. Thrift stores consist mostly of "friperies" which sell extremely low priced second hand clothing, often with offerings under 5 euros. Luxe stores are luxury consignment stores that cater for the high end market and sell both contemporary and vintage pieces from the big designer brands such as Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. A lot of the vintage stores are concentrated within the same areas - we recommend Rue de Turenne in Le Marais as a shopping hostpot. This list is by no means all encompassing as there are bound to be stores that we have missed but we have made sure to include our favourites.
