Naarm/Melbourne based fashion designer Emily Watson has been making waves in the industry since her graduate collection in 2019. The subversive designer who's brand encapsulates Australian nostalgia with a focus sustainability and re contextualising traditional swimwear archetypes has built a cult following, gaining the likes of Bella Hadid, Kali Uchis and Emma Chamberlain.

What a crazy past year it has been for you Emily! Can you tell us about your highlights of 2021?

First off, I would say one of the main highlights would be moving my workspace out of the cramped side room at my parents house into a proper studio. Also- growing my team and hiring some contractors to help out with the production side of things.

Also, randomly waking up to an Instagram of Bella Hadid in my tankini set is definitely next on the list haha!

How would you describe your brand in 3 words?

Aquatic, femme and flirty.

You mention that your garments draw inspiration from Australia Nostalgia, what does that look / feel like/ smell like to you?

I feel like as the brand has evolved, this element is becoming less distinctive within the garments themselves but more the story they portray within a collection. Next collection I'm hoping to bring back these roots from my grad collection back in 2019 - through colour palette and new archetypes.
