Balenciaga

Balenciaga was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga in 1917, and his move from Spain to Paris was where he established the fashion house in 1937. Balenciaga revolutionised fashion as he transformed the female silhouette in the early 1950’s by lowering the waist line to hip level. Balenciaga’s fine tailoring skills and appreciation of luxurious fabrics was evident throughout his collections. Although the fashion house has seen many different interpretations of the brand over the years, Balenciaga has a rich legacy within the fashion industry and remains to be one of the leading luxury fashion houses today. Designers such as Michel Goma, Nicolas Ghesquiere and Alexander Wang have worked as creative directors for the house of Balenciaga, each contributing their unique flare. Since 2015, Demna Gvasalia has been designing for the luxury fashion house, modernising the brand by incorporating elements of sports wear and references to popular culture.
